The first summit wave of the spring season can now also roll in on the Nepalese south side of Mount Everest. The Nepalese operator Seven Summit Treks reported that the ten-man rope-fixing team led by Dendi Sherpa reached the summit at 8,849 meters this evening. The route to the highest point has been secured with ropes and is now open, it said.

After a slow start to the season due to difficult conditions in the Khumbu Icefall above the base camp, the commercial teams are now back on schedule. For comparison: in spring 2023, the route to the summit was completed on 13 May, three days later than now.

By the end of April, the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism had issued 390 permits for Everest. On the north side, the Chinese-Tibetan rope-fixing team had already opened the route to the summit on Tuesday. Around 50 to 100 climbers from commercial teams are expected on the Tibetan side of Everest.
