According to a report by the Nepalese website The Tourism Times, Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel skied down the 8,125-meter-high Nanga Parbat. As with his previous seven successful eight-thousander expeditions, the 38-year-old reportedly did not use bottled oxygen during the ascent or the ski descent, according to sources at Nanga Parbat Base Camp.
Andrzej himself has not yet confirmed his success. Yesterday, he merely posted on Instagram that he had completed his acclimatization.
Skiing all five of Pakistan’s eight-thousanders
The rope-fixing team from the Nepalese expedition operator Seven Summit Treks had opened the route to the summit yesterday. In total, more than 20 people reached the highest point.
With his success on Nanga Parbat, Bargiel has now skied all five of Pakistan’s eight-thousanders. In 2015, he skied from the summit of Broad Peak down to base camp. In 2018, he completed the first full ski descent from K2. In 2023, he followed that up on the eight-thousanders Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II.
In fall 2025, the Polish ski mountaineer made headlines worldwide with his ski descent from Mount Everest.
Update 2 July: Today, Andrzej Bargiel confirmed via his social media channels that he had successfully completed the ski descent from Nanga Parbat: “On June 30, after a long summit push, I reached the top of Nanga Parbat and completed a full ski descent from the summit via the Messner Route, skiing over 3,700 vertical meters all the way to Base Camp.”
Andrzej expressed special thanks to Janusz Golab, “who climbed alongside me and supported me throughout the entire ascent.” Golab is 20 years older than Bargiel, is his mentor, and has already supported him on several of his skiing projects, including the 2018 expedition to K2.
