“School up – far west” successfully completed

Thank you! The most important words belongs at the beginning. “All the construction work has been completed,” Nepalhilfe Beilngries lets me know. The school in the village of Rama in the Humla District in the far west of Nepal has been completed.

Around 350 children from Rama and the surrounding hamlets in the municipality of Tanjakot now have a safe roof over their heads as they study, hopefully giving them a good foundation for their future lives. Nepalhilfe Beilngries had two school buildings built on a mountainside at an altitude of around 2,600 meters – with a total of twelve classrooms, a kitchen block and separate toilets for girls and boys. The construction was made possible by your donations for “School up – far west”!

“With your generous support, we have been able to significantly improve the educational environment for over 300 children in our school making it a cornerstone in our community,” says a delighted Gorkha Bahadur Shahi, Chairman of the School Management Committee in the village of Rama in Humla District in the far west of Nepal.

With your donations for “School up – far west”, Nepalhilfe Beilngries constructed two school buildings, a kitchen block and separate toilets for boys and girls. The German aid organization also ensured that the school received furniture and was supplied with drinking water. At my request, pupils from Rama drew their new school. A public holiday in the mountain village of Rama in the far west of Nepal. On Monday last week, the new school, the construction of which was made possible by your donations to “School up – far west”, was officially handed over to the villagers. More than 1,000 people celebrated exuberantly.

They came not only from Rama, but also from other villages in the municipality of Tanjakot in the Humla District. Numerous dignitaries were also present, including three mayors from Humla and seven principals from the region. Dances were performed – and speeches were given. The gratitude towards Nepalhilfe Beilngries, which had organized and implemented the school construction, and towards the “School up – far west” project was “heart-warming”, writes Shyam Pandit, the program coordinator of the German aid organization in Nepal.

“School up – far west”: (almost) all that’s missing is the paint job

When you’re swinging a paintbrush, you’re on the home straight. Anyone who has ever built a house or renovated an apartment knows this. When you can apply paint, the rough work is done and you can start to make it beautiful. Because it’s clear that you’ll soon be able to move in. This is what is currently happening to the people in the mountain village of Rama in Humla District in the far west of Nepal with their new school, which will soon be ready for use thanks to “School up – far west” and your donations.

“The two buildings, the two toilet blocks and the kitchen wing are currently being completed,” writes Shyam Pandit, the program coordinator of Nepalhilfe Beilngries in the Himalayan state. “I have sent a team of painters from Kathmandu to do the painting work.”

“School up – far west”: This is what the children in Rama dream of

As a child, I dreamed of becoming an astronaut. In the end, I didn’t go to the moon. And yet I am still fascinated by space travel. Manpura, Saphal and Prabhav from the small mountain village of Rama in the far west of Nepal also dream big about their future. The fact that these dreams seem more realistic than my astronaut dream from back then is thanks to you donors for “School up – far west” – the aid project that I launched in mid-2022 and which is also supported by top Austrian mountaineer Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner.

With your money and the expertise of Nepalhilfe Beilngries, the construction of the new school in the village in Humla District goes on. “I’ve experienced studying in a school with a makeshift roof, facing challenges like wind, rain, and clouds. Today, I express heartfelt gratitude to the Nepalhilfe organization for enhancing our school’s standards,” says Prabhav Shahi. The eleven-year-old is in sixth grade and dreams of one day working in a position of responsibility in his home country of Nepal.
